M.A.S.S. AFFECT
MISSION
To create advantages while breaking the cycle of disadvantages. Impacting lives through music, art, sport, and skill developing.
M – MUSIC
One of the first things that happens when music enters our brains is the triggering of pleasure centers that release dopamine, a neurotransmitter that makes you feel good. People around the world respond to music in a universal way. Music is a powerful stimulator of the brain. Scientist have found that music stimulates more parts of the brain than any other human function. Research shows that music can help in many aspects of the brain, including pain reduction, stress relief, memory, and brain injuries. Exposure to the rhythms of music may make it easier for youngsters to make sense of the ever-changing world around them. Playing, and even listening to, music can make you smarter, happier, healthier, and more productive at all stages of life.
A – ARTS
Art enhances brain function and well-being. There is an increasing amount of scientific evidence that art enhances brain function. It has an impact on brain wave patterns and emotions, the nervous system, and can actually raise serotonin levels. Anything that engages your creative mind – the ability to make connections between unrelated things and imagine new ways to communicate – is good for you. This idea extends to any type of visual creative expression: drawing, painting, collaging, sculpting, writing poetry, cake decorating, knitting, scrapbooking, coloring – the sky’s the limit. Creativity in and of itself is important for remaining healthy, remaining connected to yourself and connected to the world. Art has the ability to flex our imaginations. It also can change a person’s outlook and the way they experience the world.
S – SPORTS
Through sport, we have the power to change lives. Sports is central to every culture and society, and can have a number of positive life-long effects, namely the promotion of health and fitness. Apart from strengthening your body, it also develops confidence, discipline and responsibility. Research show that children who play sports tend to remain more physically active as adults and are less likely to smoke or use drugs. Sports is also a way to develop important social skills, team sports offer an opportunity for social interaction. Having fun, making friends and getting exercise are just a few of the benefits. However, sports also help children learn and hone skills such as how to challenge themselves and how to cope with intense competition. Thus, sports indeed has the power to change lives.
S – SKILLS
Skills can change your life. There is no other way to get ahead other than to learn new skills and apply them in your personal or professional life.
